Canon Medical Problems: Other then being a rabid otaku to the point of living it? Nothing.


Personality: Gai Daigoji is a very unique kinda guy, being the very epitome of an otaku. He lives and breathes his favourite series, Gekiganger III, alluding to it in practically everything he does. He idolizes the story and characters of this anime so much that he literally takes it to heart; Being a typical old-style anime, it has righteous characters that believe in truth, justice, and honour, always fighting on the side of good and protecting those weaker then themselves. Gai lives by this ‘code’, and is fanatically loud about it.

In truth, it is because of this show that he decided to become an Aestavalis (giant robot) pilot in the first place. He even has a name for every attack he can possibly make, and takes great joy in shouting that name upon execution.

While he is rather boisterous and flippant, and far too impatient for his own good, he really is rather kind, has his smart moments from time to time, and in generally endearingly childish.


Appearance: If he wasn’t always loudly proclaiming one thing or another about justice or gangars, one would think Gai to look pretty average. His eyes are brown, his hair is a darker brown (nearly bordering on black), and his skin tone is slightly tanned. He tops at just barely over 6 feet and weighs about 160 lbs. Pretty normal. Of course, the fact that he purposely styles his hair after the main character of Gekiganger isn’t as normal, but it doesn’t look too bad. Kept shorter (relative to the rest of it) at the nape of his neck, it gets longer towards the top of his head. Good sections, that at first glance might be mistaken for thick side-burns, hang in front of his ears and the rest of the top is up in a wind-swept kinda mass, pushed mostly forward and to one side.

His body type is average too. Not too thin, not too bulky, he’s that nice balance between that makes him a versatile fighter. His shoulders are a bit on the broader side though. Typically, he wears one of two things. First, his piloting suit, a skin-tight red, white, and black affair that he has no qualms about parading around in, or second, the standard otaku garb of worn jeans and an oversized sweatshirt.

Just a little side note, but Gai always, always has a little Gekigangar action figure on him at all times. It’s his favourite piece of merchandise from his favourite show. He never just leaves it anywhere.


History: Not too much is known about Gai’s history, and it doesn’t help that the guy isn’t really all that forthcoming about it. Basically, his fanatic devotion to Gekigangar lead him to become a military Aestavalis pilot. It is unclear what war or confrontation he participated in before he became a pilot on the mobile battleship Nadesico, only that he is not new to battle.

Gai is a special kind of person, and as such, he must make a special kind of entrance to anything. As such, he arrived three days early to his assignment ship, the mobile battleship Nadesico for the sole purpose of getting the first pick of the Aestavalis robots. Of course, he simply needs to test one out, and in trying to do some of his more complex manoeuvres, manages to break his leg. It was simply bad timing that a bunch of Jovian scouts attacked the ship just a little while later. Being that he was unable to pilot due to his injury, someone else had to protect the ship in his stead.

Of course, such a little thing wasn’t going to stop him from helping to organize a revolt against Nergal forces that took over the ship a couple days later in an attempt to stop it from heading to it’s mission on Mars. Neither did it hinder him as he took another Aestavalis out with his newbie pilot friend/fellow Gekigangar otaku to protect the ship as it escaped from Earth’s atmosphere, easily taking down 7 enemy robots in the battle.

While onboard the Nadesico, Gai manages to ‘convert’ several other people on board, including the young cook turned pilot Akito, into fans of Gekigangar, to the point where they stage an entire marathon of the anime in their downtime.


Powers/Abilities: Gai is, honestly, just a normal human. No magic powers or special attacks, unless you count the ‘shout out the name of your punch as you’re throwing it’ thing. If anything he just has more advanced body development due to pilot/military training, like being stronger, faster, more flexible, etc. then and average human. He allows heals pretty fast, though that may just be because he doesn’t have the patience to let himself rest through an injury recovery period and just gets up and goes.
